Chris Murphy

Chief Technology Officer, Acting Director 10x Portfolio

Chris Murphy serves as the Chief Technology Officer and Acting Director of the 10x Portfolio at the Department of War Innovation Unit (DIU). In this role he leads DIU’s investment strategy on transformational commercial technology, focusing on capabilities that deliver order-of-magnitude gains for the warfighter.

Prior to this role he served as Technical Director for DIU’s AI/ML Portfolio and as principal technology advisor to the Commander, U.S. Pacific Command, directing research and development across autonomy, C5ISR, electronic warfare, and long-range fires. 

Previously, Chris served as the U.S. Pacific Fleet Science Advisor coordinating science and technology investment across ONR, DARPA, OSW R&E, and CDAO and as the Chief Engineer for Aegis Baseline 10 at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, leading development of next-generation shipboard combat systems. He holds a Master of Science in Space Systems Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering from the United States Naval Academy. He is a Navy Surface Warfare Officer and continues to serve as an officer in the Navy Reserve.
