We've put together a special combination of military and civilian expertise.

At DIU, we accelerate commercial technology into the DoD to meet today and tomorrow's national security challenges.

Join us on our mission as we build a more secure world.

DIU is changing how the Department of Defense approaches commercial technology adoption.

We're a DoD organization headquartered in Silicon Valley comprised of active military, reservists, and civilians across a variety of technology fields.

We partner with the Services, Components and Agencies to quickly prototype and scale new technology to help protect our country.

It's rare to find a place where the leadership equips you with the resources you need and then sets you loose with such high levels of autonomy, to get results. The trust between leaders and PMs is astonishing, and enabled me to move quickly, think creatively and act decisively (confident I'd have the support of the organization) to solve problems. Maturity is a requirement here.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about working for DIU. Still can't find the answer you are looking for? Reach out to our support team.

I'm active duty military and I am interested in serving at DIU for my next duty station so I filled out the active duty questionnaire and submitted my resume. How and when will I know if I'll be selected for a billet?

DIU currently has a small number of active component billets from the Air Force, Army, Navy and Space Force. In order for individuals to be selected to backfill a vacant military billet, there must be proper timing, solid background/skillset fit for our unique mission here at DIU and for the role the billet is aligned to, and finally alignment with your service career management office. Please navigate to our Active Military interest page for more information. Indicating your interest here does not preclude you from your responsibility to engage with your career management office for your next duty assignment.

I am a Reservist/Guard member and am interested in an opportunity to serve on temporary full-time orders (ADOS, MPA, etc) at DIU, how do I find these opportunities?

Thank you for your interest! We have a Joint Reserve Detachment (JRD) sourced with IMA billets from the Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. At times we have opportunities to activate JRD members to temporary full time duty, or bring on additional supplemental military for temporary orders. Please navigate to the Opportunities page and fill out the appropriate questionnaire for your service. As these temporary full-time opportunities arise for ADOS orders, DIU will post those at this site and engage with those indicating interest in this type of opportunity.

Does DIU hire through USA jobs for federal civilian positions?

Yes, we have government civilian billets (mostly NH-04 and Highly Qualified Experts) that come vacant and we backfill through the standard federal hiring process. Please see OPM site for general guidance on federal hiring practices.

What is the Intergovernmental Personnel Act (IPA) and does DIU have the ability to use it to attract talent?

The IPA program provides the assignment of personnel between Federal Government, state governments, local governments, institutions of higher education, Indian tribal government, federally funded research and development centers, nonprofit organizations, and other eligible organizations. DIU uses the IPA program to provide technical support to a number of our portfolios.

What is a Special Governmental Employee (SGE) and how do you employ SGE's at DIU?

You can read about Special Governmental Employees here. DIU has a number of SGEs that assist with building relationships and partnerships with the commercial sector as well as regional engagement.

If you are interested in working with emerging technology and companies while contributing to the defense of our country, DIU is interested in you.
