The Problem This Solution Solves
Communication among vehicular crews is a critical component for mission success and personnel safety. Whether battling environmental conditions (wind, dust, mud, rain, surf, sea spray, etc.), operating machinery/weaponry, or traveling at high speeds while conducting operations, military personnel must maintain effective two way communications with their fellow crewmembers, other vehicles, and the crew’s command authority. The Department of Defense (DoD) and the military Services are seeking scalable solutions to overcome these internal crew communication challenges to enable safe, effective operations.
The Solution
The solution successfully integrated multiple tactical/non-tactical radios via wireless and/or hardwired connections. The solution enabled consistent crew communications, overcame loud ambient noises, adverse weather conditions, and reduced the manual input required for communication between crew members. Additionally, the solution was capable of overcoming line of sight obstacles associated with various physical barriers (boat hulls, armored plating, etc.) and minimized the need for cumbersome wiring in both the vehicle and on the individual crew member. Lastly, the solution enabled crew members to move about the vehicle freely with both hands free, in constant communication with other crew members, without being plugged in via cord/wire to the vehicle.
