The Problem This Solution Solves
Batteries continue to play a growing and critical role for the military in a range of efforts, such as providing energy storage and powering advanced capabilities. This program aimed to accelerate the adoption of commercially-proven battery technologies by prototyping battery systems based on standardized modules that leverage state-of-the-art technology and manufacturing capabilities.
The Solution
GM Defense successfully designed, developed, integrated, tested, manufactured, and demonstrated a production prototype JABS Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) Mission Power Kit. This kit provides 51 kWh of energy that is fully integrated in the floor of the ISV that keeps the bed open for regular usage, though at a somewhat reduced payload due to the battery and overall system weight. Overall, it provides ~64 hours of silent charging and only needs ~8 hours of engine running recharge required to meet a 72-hour mission profile.
