The Problem This Solution Solves
Artificial intelligence models are traditionally reliant on distant cloud servers, which presents significant challenges for Department of War (DoW) missions in "edge" environments—such as air, space, sea, ground, and cyber platforms—where constant internet connectivity is unreliable. Without local processing, military systems struggle with real-time decision-making, strict data privacy, and reliable performance in resource-constrained settings. Furthermore, existing edge AI chipsets often lack the necessary balance of high performance and power efficiency required for complex tasks like state-of-the-art object detection and language translation on tactical platforms.
The Solution
This solution uses the EdgeCortix SAKURA-II Edge AI chipset to enable high-performance AI inference directly on local devices, reducing reliance on cloud connectivity and enhancing real-time decision-making for "edge" applications. As the Department currently requires robust capabilities for air, space, and ground platforms, this prototype will help us decrease the power required for complex computations while significantly accelerating AI applications like object detection and language translation. By integrating this high-efficiency hardware into existing gateways, such as the RTX Collins Advanced Intelligent Gateway, the Department can transform tactical mission systems with superior automated recognition and communication capabilities in even the most rugged and radiation-heavy environments.
