On August 19-21, Capital Factory will host the annual 2025 Fed Supernova event in Austin bringing together startups, government, industry, and academia to accelerate dual-use technology that powers national security. This three-day event accelerates defense innovation by creating a unique, once-a-year opportunity for the entire ecosystem to converge with a shared mission. The Defense Innovation Community, or DODx, will be there in full force.

DoDx Sessions:

The joint defense innovation community welcomes attendees to afternoon programming on the Wolverine stage, 8th Floor. Sessions will be held on August 20 and August 21 between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. CT.

What: Defense SBIR STTR 101 with Q&A

DOD and other agencies authorized by Congress to execute SBIR STTR programs will speak to their programs to advance defense and national security. Experts will explain service objectives (DOD calls them demand signals) and speak to program specifics like the annual cycle, solicitations, and evaluations. Learn and ask questions about SBIR vs. STTR; Phase 1, 2, 3, and STRATFI TACFI; Specific vs. Open topics, and more.

What: Federal Front Doors: Helping Startups Get Started with DoD

Meet experts with federal "front doors" working everyday to help small businesses and startups partner with government. These federal entities and partners in and around the defense ecosystem will share insights about how to getting started and all the resources available to help you partner with the DoD.

What: Where's The Money

From a business perspective, this panel will explain DOD funding, budget cycles, and concepts like the "color of money" that differ from industry practices. The panel will venture into discussion about who is the customer, TRLs, and types and timing of contracts, such as SBIR STTR Awards; CSO; OTA; STRATFI TACFI; plus other early and late stage funding mechanisms.

In addition to compelling talks and discussions we’re hosting specialized Joint Office Hours to create meaningful one-on-one interactions with experts, mentors, and peers. This is an open call to meet 1:1 with DOD defense innovation units on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 from 1 p.m. -5 p.m. at Capital Factory on the 8th floor.
